How to Wash Egyptian Cotton Sheets
As with any investment, you want to make sure that they are properly protected and cared for. The same can be said when it comes to quality linens. While Egyptian cotton sheets are durable and long-lasting, they do require proper care to ensure longevity. With proper care, they will only improve with time, becoming smoother and softer for the best sleeping experience. Washing them right away is important. Please see our proper washing instructions below so you can keep your fitted sheets in top shape for years to come.
Proper Egyptian cotton sheet washing involves making sure that they get the best cleaning and don’t get damaged and wrinkled. Following are some guidelines you may follow:
Wash Them Separately from Other Items
Wash your sheets separately from towels or other clothing to make sure that they get more room to circulate in the water and become cleaner. There is another benefit of washing these sheets alone: it prevents damage to them caused by fasteners or zippers on other products and reduces the amount of pilling that can happen to the bedding over time.
Pre-treat Stains Before You Launder Sheets
It is always important to pre-treat stains. It will ensure the stain is completely removed. Stains will be difficult to remove over time so it’s vital that they are pre-treated before washing. The sooner they are pre-treated, the better. This will reduce damage to the fibers and prevent colors from fading.
Reducing Damage to the Sheets
If you have a washing machine with a center agitator feature, then it is recommended that you loosely form the sheets into balls before putting them in your washing machine. This will help reduce the damage to sheets that is caused by them coming into contact with the agitator. Apart from this, dry the sheets in direct sunlight, if possible. If you are using a dryer, then make sure to use a low heat setting, to reduce damage caused by exposing the sheets to high temperatures.
There are a number of ways to reduce wrinkles in your sheets. If you are using a washing machine, use the cool or lukewarm water setting and gentle wash cycle. Also, remove the sheets as soon as the cycle is over. If you are using a dryer, shake the sheets out before putting them in the dryer. Last but not least, avoid ironing your Egyptian sheets if possible as this type of heat can damage the fabric.
Wash your Egyptian cotton sheets on a weekly basis. If you live in a humid climate, then you will need to wash them more frequently to extend their life. When you spend time on your bed, your body fluids, oils, skin cells, dust, dirt, and other materials accumulate on your sheets. These particles affect the sheet fibers the longer they accumulate on them. Furthermore, body oils, fluids and skin cells can attract microscopic mites. One idea would be to have several sets of Egyptian cotton sheets at home. This way, you will always have a clean set you can use on your bed. By rotating multiple sets of sheets per bed, you will ensure that the sheets last longer.
